About The Psychosexual and Psychotherapy Consultancy
About The Psychosexual and Psychotherapy Consultancy

The consultancy works with all sexual problems and all marriage and relationship problems:

Individual Psychotherapy: The consultancy offers psychological therapies to address sexual problems as well as responding to other more generalised concerns.

Marriage and Relationships: A programme of treatment is offered to individuals and couples for all marital and relationship problems.

Male and Female Problems of Sexual Functioning: We work with people who experience problems of sexual functioning. These include, among others, absence or loss of desire, problems of arousal and sexual interest, anorgasmia, premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, vaginismus and dyspareunia.

Drug and Alcohol Problems: We take into account the aetiology and function of substance dependence and all work is undertaken with this awareness in mind. Although not dogmatic— we tend towards an abstinence based and twelve-step model of response.

Diversity of Sexual Preference: The practice seeks to help people of differing sexual orientations to recognise, resolve and/or adjust to the diversity of sexual preference and to the personal and practical issues that can accompany the personal, family and social awareness of such diversity.

Gender Identity: The consultancy works with women and men with problems of gender identity and seeks to help provide clarity and facilitate decision making about adjustment and/or change.

People in Public Life: There is recognition that there are particular problems associated with the management of marital problems, as well as sexual problems, for those in positions of leadership and under constant public scrutiny. The particular nature of these problems is taken into account in the practical arrangements and in problem resolution.

Problems of Complex Trauma: The practice is experienced and sensitive to the complex problems associated with sexual trauma. Such trauma may result from childhood experience, from acts of violence or neglect, from assisted reproductive technologies, invasive procedures or medical and pharmacological treatment.

Sexual Addiction and the Internet: The consultancy offers a treatment programme for addictive compulsive patterns of sexual behaviour as well as employees or professionals with problematic Internet usage. An education programme is also available to explain and alert people to the problems as well as to the benefits of the new communication technologies on the development and conduct of human relationships.

Other Problems of Sexual Behaviour: We are aware that some people have patterns of behaviour that are compulsive or highly charged with erotic content but which at the same time they feel are anti-social, personally demeaning, contrary to their religious beliefs or other systems of value and cause them times of great personal distress. The practice is committed to working with men and women in these circumstances to reduce distress and move forward to individually acceptable resolutions to such problems.

Research and Education: The practice is committed to on-going research and seeks to contribute regularly to conferences and academic journals. Additionally the practice offers workshops, training and educational contributions to interested parties and professional organisations. The practice sponsors an annual lecture as part of its commitment to education and reflective practice.
